Rockfall Awards Environmental Scholarship to Morgan School Student
The Rockfall Foundation has selected Erin Lindsay of The Morgan School in Clinton as recipient for the 2019 Virginia R. Rollefson Environmental Leadership Scholarship. Lindsay conducted a research project on the significant decline of eelgrass, a type of seagrass, in Long Island Sound. Her research found pollutants from fertilizer and sewage in areas where the eelgrass could no longer be found growing. With eelgrass beds being important habitat for marine life, including lobsters and shellfish, her hope is that its prevalence can be restored in her research area, which included Hammonasset Beach.
The a $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to recognize leadership and initiative by a high school junior or senior residing in Middlesex County, Lyme, or Old Lyme for participation in a program, project, or activity that benefits preservation, conservation, restoration or environmental education.
