About The Foundation
Greening and Growing Middlesex County
The Rockfall Foundation supports environmental education, conservation projects and planning initiatives in Middlesex County. Its mission is to be a catalyst working with other organizations to support relevant community services and enlightened means of natural resource conservation, preservation and development.
Named for the rock falls at the present Wadsworth Falls State Park, Rockfall was founded in 1935 by Colonel Clarence S. Wadsworth in order "to establish, maintain and care for parks and forests or wild land for the use and enjoyment of the public, with such limitations as the Corporation may impose, and to carry out any other public and charitable purpose...". Continuing Wadsworth’s tradition of philanthropic activity in Middlesex County, Rockfall supports environmental projects, awards, grants, and educational programs; holds and manages open-space property; and preserves and operates the historic deKoven House in Middletown as a community center.
Foundation Grants
Think globally…..Green locally…
The Rockfall Foundation grants have supported environmental education and planning projects in Middlesex County for more than 30 years. Thanks to the generous contributions of individual donors and corporate sponsors, these grants have been a catalyst for new and imaginative ways to preserve and protect our natural resources-- while enhancing the quality of life for all county residents. Rockfall is particularly committed to projects involving children and, by extension, their families in hands-on environmental learning and outdoor exploration.
